Description
An old mansion sprawled across the forest like a ‘The Nest’ for a religious family, living in isolation and by their own rules. All focus is on the suffocating overprotection of a disabled boy, whose childhood unfolds behind locked doors and in an iron grip.
It’s remarkable how a mother, shielding her son from every outside influence, could make such a blunder and hire a young girl as a maid—completely ignoring her child’s natural desires. It would’ve been far wiser to bring in a bitter old woman, witch-like and radiating cold, to keep the heir safe from sinful lust.
But then, I suppose, there would be no plot. And we wouldn’t have this Italian gothic horror.
