Euthanizer
Description
Euthanizer (Armomurhaaja) — A Finnish crime thriller with elements of black comedy. In it, an ordinary-looking mechanic Veijo Haukka, who moonlights as an animal euthanizer, confronts a gang of neo-Nazis. No, he didn’t refuse to fix their car for ethical reasons. It’s all about a dog. Just like John Wick — already four films avenging a dog’s death. That’s how mechanic-euthanizer Veijo Haukka got himself in trouble for refusing to kill a dog. But there are no fancy special effects or crazy action. Instead, there’s harsh reality, real Finnish countryside, and real people’s problems. So you can easily imagine this mechanic being your neighbour or your neighbour’s neighbour who lives in the last house on the left.
Films like this without supernatural events are rare in the Vegan Vampire collection. But if they stand out with an original plot, experimental directorial approach, or touch the soul — I add them. By the same criteria, you can find a few romantic films in my collection. Yes, there’s only romance and nothing else, but what romance. Even though Vegan Vampire focuses on horror and sci-fi, I believe it would be wrong to deny you the chance to see amazing films in other genres. Important note: AMAZING, in my opinion. 😄
The Euthanizer was Finland’s submission for the Academy Award in the category “Best Foreign Language Film” in 2018.
