Best Wishes to All

Description

Before I started watching, I had no idea just how utterly terrifying Best Wishes to All would turn out to be. The first half-hour doesn’t hint at any horror at all, but then the psychological pressure kicks in. You start believing everything on screen and projecting it onto our own reality. This happens because the film isn’t presented as a horror movie, but as a social drama.

You head to the countryside for a week to visit your grandparents. You haven’t seen them in ages, and there’s even a bit of awkwardness. They’re old now, and you might feel a little guilty for not visiting sooner. But that feeling quickly fades the moment they start acting weird. So weird that being around them just feels creepy. And then you remember how you didn’t even want to come here in the first place. You should have listened to your gut.

It’s probably dementia, there’s no other explanation, and you just have to be patient. But the urge to get the hell out of there keeps growing. But hey, grandma’s miso soup is amazing. And just as I thought that, a hand appeared in the doorway. I froze, not understanding what was happening. Then a man’s head emerged, his eyes and mouth sewn shut.

“What the fuck is this shit?” I yelled. Grandpa and grandma turned around and, without a hint of surprise, grabbed the man by his arms and legs and dragged him upstairs. I followed them, hoping to get an answer to the question: what the hell is going on here? They dragged the man into the room that, as far as I could remember, was always locked. They laid him on a mattress and started tying him up. And then I saw it. Right next to the mattress was some kind of substance that looked exactly like the base for grandma’s miso soup. What the fuck did I just eat?

Is the whole village in on this crazy shit?
Mom, Dad, did you know about this?
