“Aurora” is a great film. I never cease to be amazed at how far my impressions of a film can diverge from crowd opinions and aggregate ratings.

I can’t say the low score of this Philippine film surprised me much — and yet, ratings like that are usually handed out to amateur projects or outright trash, and this meditative horror film is definitely neither.

On IMDb it holds a mere 4.4 from seven hundred-odd votes. Even setting my personal sympathy aside and judging objectively, the score is far too low. The film simply wasn’t made for a mass audience.

I watched “Aurora” soon after its release, and I liked it. Watched it — and forgot it. But some time later it resurfaced in my memory, and I wanted to see it again. I remembered neither the title nor the country of origin; all I remembered was that it was something Asian.
“Aurora” — I found you at last!

It’s a rare pleasure to finally find what you’ve been searching for so long.
“Aurora“ is waiting for its hour: the day I sit down and watch it once more.
