Tú no eres yo
Year: 2023 Runtime: 98 min. Director: Marisa Crespo, Moisés Romera Country: Spain

Description

You Are Not Me. Imagine: you arrive at your parents’ house for the New Year holidays and see that some woman is sitting at your place at the festive table. She’s wearing your clothes, and your parents treat her as if she’s their child, not you.

What the hell is going on here, you think. And you immediately remember that strange feeling, as if something warned you against going to your childhood home. You could’ve just stayed in the big city and spent New Year alone with a tree, garlands, and salads you cooked all day (because you’re not the type who buys unhealthy ready-made food). Watch the fireworks from the window.

All in the best traditions of introverts. Or at least go down to the bar on the first floor, have a drink, feel the holiday atmosphere, and spend the night in the company of strangers, slightly tipsy. But no, you drove into this middle of nowhere in the middle of the night and discovered that no one was even waiting for you.

I hope nothing like this ever happens to you and your instincts don’t fail you — and that you’ll stay home for the New Year holidays to avoid ending up in a situation like this.
And the film You Are Not Me will show you an alternative version of events, if you still decided to travel to the middle of nowhere, to your childhood home, leaving your salads, tree, and garlands alone.

If you like psychological horror films about gaslighting, family gatherings with social subtext, and atmosphere like in Get Out or Midsommar, then watch You Are Not Me.

P.S.
I’m not against visiting your parents for the New Year holidays, not even close. Just know that there’s a one-in-a-million chance that something pretending to be you might be waiting for you there. 😄
