The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Description
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is the kind of film that stays with you long after the credits roll.
Logan Lerman instantly became one of my favorite actors after this. Emma Watson, whom I’ve admired since Harry Potter, delivers a surprisingly nuanced performance here. The cast is packed with artists I genuinely respect: Paul Rudd, Nina Dobrev (yes, that Nina from The Vampire Diaries), horror legend Tom Savini, Dylan McDermott (American Horror Story), Julia Garner, and of course, Ezra Miller. Watching him here, it’s hard not to wonder how many times Warner Bros. executives cursed Zack Snyder for casting Ezra as The Flash right after The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Beyond the stellar ensemble, what makes this film special is that it was written and directed by the book’s author, Stephen Chbosky. Adapting such intimate, confessional prose into a screenplay is notoriously difficult. Yet he pulled it off. In my view, it’s one of the most honest and emotionally precise dramas I’ve ever seen.
And yes, I deliberately left the plot untouched. Just watch this wonderful, deeply beloved film.
