Birdboy: The Forgotten Children
Description
Birdboy: The Forgotten Children (Psiconautas, los niños olvidados) is a feature-length animated film based on Alberto Vázquez’s graphic novel of the same name, expanding on the themes of his acclaimed short film Birdboy (2011).
Set on an island scarred by an industrial disaster, the story follows anthropomorphic animal protagonists: Dinky, a determined mouse, and Birdboy, a troubled outcast. While Dinky and her friends plot an escape from the grim, garbage-strewn island, Birdboy remains trapped in his own inner turmoil.
Birdboy: The Forgotten Children tackles weighty themes: social inequality, ecological collapse, addiction, the painful transition to adulthood, and the search for hope in a broken world. Its deceptively cute character design stands in stark contrast to the film’s relentlessly bleak, apocalyptic atmosphere and unflinching depictions of violence.
The film won the prestigious Spanish Goya Award for Best Animated Feature.
