A Mother's Embrace
Description
A Mother’s Embrace (Abraço de Mãe) — a claustrophobic psychological horror that will appeal to fans of H.P. Lovecraft.
Rio de Janeiro, 1996. A catastrophic downpour lashes the city. Firefighter Ana and her team are sent to evacuate a nursing home threatened by a landslide. But when they arrive, the rescuers realize: the elderly residents and staff have no intention of leaving.
This film is by Argentine director Cristian Ponce, who previously made what I consider a phenomenal and incredibly atmospheric film, History of the Occult (Historia de lo Oculto). I’m waiting for the right moment to watch A Mother’s Embrace, and I really hope it’s just as brilliant. But I’m trying not to set my expectations too high — wouldn’t want to be disappointed.
